Man charged in rideshare fight, shooting in Lorton

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Police said they arrested a man who is accused of opening fire on fellow rideshare passenger whom he didn’t know.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said Yusef Roy, 32, of Lorton faces charges related to the incident, which took place on March 1.

Officers went to the 9200 block of Ashland Woods Ln. in Lorton shortly after 12 a.m. after they received a report of a shooting. Investigators found that Roy and another person took a rideshare together. Roy and the other person did not know one another. The driver picked them up from different locations but dropped them off near each other.

FCPD said Roy and the other passenger fought, exchanging words. During the fight, Roy supposedly pulled out a gun and fired it a number of times at the other passenger. The other passenger was not hurt, and police said Roy left the area.

Detectives said they were able to idenitfy Roy as the person responsible for the shooting. They added that when they searched his home, they found several guns inside it.

As of Thursday, May 2, Roy was in jail with no bond set. Police said the charges against him were Malicious Wounding and Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony.
