Man charged with robbery attempt at Wells Fargo Bank in Cordova

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An arrest has been made after an attempted robbery Friday evening at a Wells Fargo Bank in Cordova.

Group of thieves hit City Gear during business hours

Dedrick Taylor, 56, is charged with attempted aggravated robbery. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning.

On February 16 around 4:30 p.m., Appling Farms Station officers responded to 1365 North Germantown Parkway at the Wells Fargo Bank regarding a hold-up alarm.

The bank employees stated that a man came inside, and pointed a black handgun at them and the customers while yelling, “This is a robbery”.

That is when the employees immediately ran into the office. The suspect reportedly left the scene on foot, running eastbound across Germantown Parkway.

MPD says the suspect was a heavy-set male, wearing a dark-colored hoodie, dark jeans, black hat, light blue surgical mask, and red gloves.

A witness tells police the suspect walked into the backyard of their home on Country Village Drive and changed clothes. She says the man put his clothes in a black garbage bag, waved at her, and then walked off – leaving the bag behind.

Officers found a black handgun in a backyard near a doghouse in a white bag with blue writing stuffed in a heavy-duty black trash bag. The clothes in the bag matched the clothes women by the suspect.

The suspect, later identified as Dedrick Taylor, was then located by police in front of Kooky Canuk on North Germantown Parkway.

At that time, Taylor was taken into custody without incident.

Just last month, the same Wells Fargo bank was robbed, also on a Friday evening around the same time.

The suspect reportedly took a “large sum” of cash before leaving the bank.

He was described as a man with dreads wearing a dark blue FedEx winter jacket, black pants, black tennis shoes with red soles, tinted safety-style glasses, and black gloves. Police say he also was wearing a blue surgical mask.
