Man charged in Sanford shooting

Apr. 19—A Sanford man was charged Tuesday in connection with a shooting that left another man wounded on Maple Avenue on Monday.

According to Sanford Police Department Maj. Vincent Frazer, detectives arrested Robert Bernard Fox III at around 11 a.m. Tuesday and charged him with one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred around 9:30 p.m. Monday at a residence in the 400 block of Maple Avenue and left a 20-year-old man in stable condition at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital.

Sanford police said officers were notified of the shooting at 9:26 p.m. Monday and arrived at the scene on Maple Avenue to find Alex Trujillo with a gunshot wound to the neck. EMS responded and transported him to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition as of midday Tuesday.

Fox was processed Tuesday and taken before a Lee County Magistrate where he was placed in the Lee County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond. Fox is scheduled to have a first appearance in Lee County District Court at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Sanford police are continuing the investigation.
