A Lauderhill man has been charged with setting a fire in Hollywood last month — the same fire where police said the charred body of Jasmine Guillaume, 25, was discovered inside a car.
Police released few details about the arrest of Keith Martin Perkins, 26, including whether he had any relationship with Guillaume. Local 10 News had reported after the fire that Guillaume was pregnant and that her friends, who declined to go on camera, believed she knew her killer.
Perkins was arrested on Friday. According to an arrest warrant, he’s charged with setting fire to the vehicle and to the property where the car was found.
Bail for Perkins was set at $20,000.
Perkins was released from prison last August after serving a year and 10 months for two counts of grand theft, one car theft and burglary. He had previously served nearly 16 months for trying to cash a counterfeit check at a Tamarac Amscot store.
The Broward Public Defender’s Office, which is representing Perkins, has not assigned an attorney to his case. An arraignment date has not been set.
Hollywood Police spokesman Christian Lata declined to say whether Perkins is a suspect in Guillaume’s murder, which remains under investigation.
