Man connected to 2017 armed home invasion sentenced to 20+ years in NC Dept. of Adult Corrections, deputies say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man has pled guilty in connection to an armed robbery home invasion that took place on Sept. 22, 2017, Northampton County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, Deshawn Beverly, 28 of Cofield, pled guilty in Superior Court to second degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The sheriff’s office said Beverly was sentenced in Superior Court in Hertford Co. for a special setting on Monday to the NC Dept. of Adult Corrections to 20-25 years.

The sheriff’s office said three to five defendants were sentenced.

  • Deshy Gatling, 29: (Pled guilty) 20-25 years: sentenced Oct. 18, 2023

  • Eric Vaughan Jr. 28: (Jury Trial) Life without parole: sentenced Jan. 18, 2024

  • Deshawn Beverly, 28: (Pled guilty) 20-25 years: sentenced Feb. 26, 2024

The incident happened on Sept. 22, 2017, around 11:40 p.m. in Arrowhead Mobile Home Park in Woodland North Carolina where the sheriff’s office said Beverly was involved in an armed robbery home invasion with several other people.

According to the sheriff’s office, a 50-year-old man living at the home suffered several gunshot wounds and later passed away from his injuries.

After a thorough investigation, the sheriff’s office said warrants were obtained for Beverly where he was initially charged in October 2017 with the following:

  • 1 count first degree murder

  • 2 counts first degree kidnapping

  • 6 counts second degree kidnapping

  • 1 count injury personal property

  • 1 count robbery with a dangerous weapon

  • 1 count conspiracy to robbery with a dangerous weapon

  • 1 count first degree burglary

  • 1 count larceny after breaking & entering

Northampton County Sheriff’s Office said they would like to specially thank members of the Sheriff’s Office that assisted with this investigation, the NC State Bureau of Investigations for their assistance in this original investigation and would like to thank the District Attorney’s Office with this case trial.

The sheriff’s office said they are thankful the family members of the victim has justice on their side for the loss of their love one and justice for the other victims in this case for the horrific events they experienced on Sept. 22, 2017.
