A 20-year-old was convicted of attempted manslaughter after a fist fight inside a McDonald's on South Monroe Street last year turned into a shootout.

A jury found Dominick Malik McBride guilty last week of attempted manslaughter and carrying a concealed firearm.

According to reports, McBride, who worked at that McDonald's, arrived with two other friends to the fast food eatery and approached a group of three boys already inside the restaurant.

Dedrick Norton was at the McDonald's visiting his girlfriend when one of McBride's friends "approached Norton and immediately struck him." A fight broke out causing McBride and Oronde Dixon, one of Norton's friends, to pull out guns they both had tucked in their waistbands, reports said.

McBride told investigators during an interview that Dixon shot first, and he fired back in self defense. As he ran out of the McDonald's, he told them he saw Norton running away and shot at him too.

"McBride ultimately stated his actions were not justified as Norton posed no threat and actively fled," reports say. "McBride confessed he was wrong for shooting at Norton."

Gunfire hit Dixon, and he was taken to a local hospital suffering life-threatening injuries, police said. McBride was taken into custody just over two weeks after the incident. Dixon was arrested the following month on charges of attempted homicide, shooting into an occupied building and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.

McBride's sentencing is set for March 19, court dockets show.
