Man could spend up to 150 years in prison after shooting victim during robbery
A jury found a man guilty of attempted first-degree murder and other charges after he shot someone during a robbery outside a north Lafayette convenience store.
Kevin Auguillard Jr. was convicted Thursday for attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a release from the 15th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
Auguillard was accused of shooting a man on June 27, 2020, outside the Big Boy convenience store on University Avenue and taking things of value from the victim. The victim had to stay in the hospital for three weeks and underwent multiple surgeries after the shooting. The year before, Auguillard was convicted of assault by drive-by shooting.

Auguillard was arrested about a month later in Broussard by the U.S. Marshal's Violent Offender Task Force.
"Getting those criminals who use guns to commit violent crimes off our streets is of the utmost importance to our DA's office," District Attorney Don Landry said in a written statement. "We have pledged to clean up our community, to make it safer, and removing those who commit violent crimes in our cities are the highest priority in our office.
The 28-year-old is being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center until his sentencing hearing on April 28. He faces a maximum of 150 years.
