Man In Crisis Fires Shot At Police Vehicle: Patch PM

FRANKLIN, MA — Happy Monday, happy Indigenous People's Day, and happy Columbus Day — and welcome to what is setting up to be a crisp, sometimes wet week.

It was a jarring early start to the week for Franklin police and members of the regional Metro-LEC SWAT team. Police responded to a Franklin apartment complex on Sunday just before 1 p.m. after a report of a man threatening people with a gun. When police arrived, the man fired several shots at an armored police vehicle, but didn't hit any officers or bystanders, police said.

The SWAT team used sponge bullets, Tasers and dogs to subdue the man. He was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, and for a mental health evaluation. Police did not immediately announce any charges pending an investigation.

Franklin Chief Thomas Lynch praised the "incredible restraint" shown during the incident.

"Results like this are not always possible, but are what we strive for," he said.
