Florence man dies after being shot in face, police say

FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — A 38-year-old Florence man died Monday night at a local hospital shortly after being shot in the face along Carver Street, authorities said.

Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken on Tuesday identified the victim as Melvin Johnson. An autopsy is planned Thursday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Florence Police Capt. Stephen Starling said authorities are still looking for suspects.
