East Memphis Kroger gas station clerk shoots customer, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say a store clerk at a Kroger gas station on Poplar in East Memphis shot a customer in the store Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened just before 9 a.m. at the station at 751 Truse Parkway, near Clark Tower.

The victim, a 35-year-old man, called police telling them the clerk shot him. He was taken to Regional One in critical condition, with gunshot wounds, police said.

The woman accused of shooting him was detained, but no charges had been filed by Tuesday afternoon.

The clerk told police that the man had been barred from the store because he has been agressive with employees and customers in the past. She advised him to leave.

A witness said told police the man was throwing things at the clerk. When the witness left the store, she heard several gunshots.

A Kroger representative said the company would release a statement when they had reviewed the facts.
