Man critically injured during argument over use of SUV in El Paso's Upper Valley

An argument over the use of a vehicle between two people related to each other led to a man being critically injured, officials said.

El Paso Police Department officers responded to a report of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle about 10:50 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Edgar Road in the Upper Valley.

Officers found a 28-year-old man, whose name has not been released, with critical injuries at the scene of the argument, officials said.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment. No update has been released on his condition.

Officers learned through their investigation that the man and the driver of the vehicle are related.

Officials did not describe the relationship between the two people.

The driver, a 53-year-old woman, and the man had gotten into an argument over the use of the vehicle, a 2008 Volkswagen Touareg, officials said.

The investigation showed the man had attempted to open the door to the vehicle and hit the woman, whose name also was not released, officials said.

The woman then decided to drive off.

As she drove away, she noticed the man lying on the street.

She immediately returned and called for help, officials said.

Police are continuing to investigate how the pedestrian was injured, officials said.
