The man killed earlier this week when he was crushed after the jack came off the vehicle he was working on was a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. employee, the utility said.

The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on Harrison Gulch Road near Platina.

“The employee was between work locations when the incident occurred,” PG&E spokesman Paul Moreno said.

On Thursday, the Shasta County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Jakob Louis Stockton, 21, of Redding.

The California Highway Patrol said that Stockton was changing a tire when the jack slipped off the vehicle.

PG&E said in a statement: “We have learned of the tragic death Tuesday of a PG&E employee in Shasta County. Our thoughts and prayers are with our fallen team member, his family and our extended team. We are supporting the California Highway Patrol as they investigate what happened.”

The CHP continues to investigate the accident.
