A man who was in custody at a Mohave County jail died by suicide on Monday, two days after he was booked into the facility, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

The man, identified as Justin James Jarvy, 33, was alone in a single cell that was being used for quarantine, the Sheriff's Office said in a press release. Around 10:40 p.m. he was found inside the cell and was pronounced dead.

Jarvy had been booked into the facility on Saturday on suspicion of second-degree murder. The homicide investigation occurred the same day he was booked, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death, the Sheriff's Office said.

The number of suicide attempts in Arizona prisons for the 2020 fiscal year totaled 91, which was 81 less than the year before, according to data from the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry. The number of suicide deaths among incarcerated people was also down by one that fiscal year, totaling six, the data showed.
