SOUTH BEND — Two people were injured Wednesday night in a shooting at Kelly's Pub and a man is in custody in connection with the incident.

Police were called to the bar about 10 p.m. on reports of a shooting. Two people had received gunshot wounds and were taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to a South Bend police news release. Their conditions were not known.

The information provided by police did not say whether the victims were inside or outside the pub.

Investigation and evidence collected at the pub resulted in a man being taken into custody after a traffic stop early Thursday morning in South Bend, police officials said.

The man was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail. He is awaiting a decision by the county prosecutor's office on whether any charges will be filed in the case, the news release said.

Scene of 2019 shooting death

In June 2019, a Niles man died and 10 others were injured in a shooting at the site of the tavern.

Police were called to the site on reports of a man, later identified as Brandon Williams, 27, who had been shot.

About 50-100 people were in the bar or outside in the parking lot at the time of the 2019 shooting, and some patrons later went to the hospital that night to check on victims, causing what police described at the time a chaotic scene, forcing the hospital to be locked down for a time.

The then-St. Joseph County Metro Crimes Unit investigated the incident. No one was ever charged in connection with the shooting death.
