PORT HURON, Mich.- - A man is dead after a fight at a Port Huron bar on Saturday.
The incident happened in the 400 block of Quay Street. On Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 2:11 a.m. Port Huron Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Michigan Avenue and Quay Street for a large fight and a subject being held down by bouncers from a local bar.
Cellphone footage obtained by FOX 2 captures the incident unfolding.
"Once officers arrived at scene, they helped secure the individual being held down by bar staff and immediately recognized that the subject was unresponsive. The officers and bar staff immediately began performing life saving measures while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive," police said.
Once EMS arrived, they took over life-saving measures and transported the individual to McLaren Hospital.
"People were everywhere; there had to be at least 50 people - phones videoing and screaming you’re killing him, get him off, take him out of the cuffs that’s not how you do it, nobody listen," said Patty James, a witness.
26-year-old Joshua Conant was pronounced dead after he got to the hospital.
"The police were incompetent because they didn’t take over CPR - there’s no doubt in my mind if he would have been taken out of handcuffs, rolled over on his back, and had actually chest compressions for the six minutes I was screaming at them to do it, he would be alive," said Patty.
