Man dead after road rage incident on Kansas Expressway in north Springfield

An apparent road rage incident that started on North Glenstone Avenue on Wednesday ended in a shooting death on Kansas Expressway near Interstate 44.

Police received calls about 6:30 p.m. about two vehicles hitting each other on North Glenstone near the freeway exit before the "rolling disturbance" continued westbound.

A man was then shot multiple times, according to initial reports, at Kansas Expressway. The disturbance appeared to be between a van and an SUV. Investigators detained the shooter, who stayed on the scene until police arrived. He was not arrested at that time, but the case will be sent to the Greene County Prosecutor's Office to determine if charges should be filed.

On Thursday morning, police identified the deceased person as Michael D. Miller, 39, of Walnut Grove.

Police diverted traffic on Kansas Expressway during their investigation Wednesday night, closing the westbound exit onto I-44.

Springfield's last homicide was on Aug. 6 following an afterparty at a business at Kansas Expressway.
