One man is dead and a woman injured after a single-vehicle collision on Interstate 15, according to the California Highway Patrol Barstow Office.

The CHP reported that around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to a major injury traffic collision on northbound I-15 north of Bailey Road.

The incident location is in the Mountain Pass area, about 15 miles south of Primm, Nevada, area maps show.

Upon arrival, the CHP came upon a damaged 2014 Toyota Camry and determined that the driver, a 34-year-old man from Fort Washington, Maryland, was with a 35-year-old woman passenger, who was from Capitol Heights, also in the same state.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver failed to navigate a curve in the interstate and allowed the Toyota to veer to its right and across the shoulder, according to the CHP.

The Toyota then collided with a rock wall, which resulted in the vehicle spinning and the driver being ejected due to not using the lap/shoulder restraint, CHP officials said.

Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene and transported the driver, who suffered major injuries, to St. Rose Hospital in Las Vegas, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the CHP report.

The woman sustained minor injuries due to the collision, CHP officials said.

On Wednesday, the CHP had not released the identity of the woman and the man’s identity had not been released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office

Alcohol and/or drugs are not considered to be a contributing factor in this collision, which is under investigation by the CHP, Barstow Area.
