Man with dementia wandered away from home, Georgia cops say. Body found days later

A body found in a wooded area of an Atlanta-area neighborhood may belong to a missing man with dementia, Georgia deputies told news outlets.

George Bryan, 68, was reported missing Saturday, Jan. 27, after wandering from his home in Covington, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

On Jan. 29, deputies said they found a man’s body in the woods near Regency Place, where Bryan was last seen, WANF reported.

Authorities are still waiting on a positive identification by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, a Newton County investigator told McClatchy News via email. Additional details weren’t given.

Bryan usually finds his way back home within an hour but hasn’t been seen since, deputies said. He also left without his cell phone.

His daughter, Nicole Bryan, was there when deputies found a body, WSB-TV reported.

“They found someone, but they can’t tell me whether it’s my dad or not,” she told the station. “I’m trying to keep my cool.”

Covington is about 40 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
