Man who died in fall from moving UTV in Oconto County identified

OCONTO – An Illinois man who died after falling from a utility task vehicle in northern Oconto County on May 29 has been identified as David Weinmann.

The 56-year-old West Chicago man fell off the cargo bed of the vehicle and struck his head on the pavement, according to the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the UTV, a 53-year-old Waukesha man, was arrested on charge of operating a UTV while intoxicated causing serious injury, and later released.

The case has been referred to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges.

The accident occurred about 9 p.m. when the UTV accelerated while turning from Boulder Lane onto County T in the town of Doty, about 9 miles west of Mountain.

Weinmann was pronounced dead after being taken to Aspirus Langlade Hospital in Antigo.

His was the fourth off-road vehicle fatality in Wisconsin this year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

The number of off-road fatalities have since risen to five this year in the state, including three over the Memorial Day weekend.
