Man dies after being hit by car in Plum

A man is dead after being hit by a car along Golden Mile Highway in Plum late Monday night.

Officers were called to the scene just before 11:30 p.m.

The crash happened near Holiday Park Shopping Center.

Allegheny County police are investigating how it happened. Investigators have not said whether the man who was hit was walking along the road or attempting to cross it.

“You always see an accident along 286,” said Don Tappe, who lives nearby. “The whole stretch of 286 is unsafe.”

According to county police, the driver stopped and spoke with police. The department has not announced the driver’s name.

It’s unclear if any charges will be filed.

The man who was hit was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

“People are speeding, I mean, no regard to the speed limit anymore. They’re always in a hurry,” explained Tappe. “People are constantly going through stop signs here. Plum police are doing their best to control that, but people’s minds are somewhere else nowadays.”
