A Suffolk man died less than two weeks after he was critically injured in a house fire, a city spokesperson announced Friday.

Tyrone Brown, 59, died Tuesday as a result of burns he sustained in a house fire on Aug. 27. A second resident, who was also severely burned in the blaze, remains hospitalized but is in “fair condition,” Suffolk spokesperson Jennifer Moore said.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded to the 3600 block of Sleepy Hole Road at 12:38 a.m. When crews responded, heavy fire and smoke was coming from a large, two-story home.

Brown and the second resident were outside the home when firefighters arrived on scene. They were treated for their burns by paramedics while firefighters battled the blaze before they were transported to a local hospital.

A firefighter sustained a minor injury during the incident and was cleared for duty on scene.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office.
