One man is dead and another was arrested after a late-night stabbing Friday in north Fort Collins.

Police were called to 318 N. College Ave., a Loaf N Jug gas station and convenience store in north Fort Collins, on a report of a "potential stabbing" about 10:09 p.m., according to a news release early Saturday morning. An adult man with multiple stab wounds was found at College and Willow Street and taken to a hospital, where he later died.

His identity has not been released.

About 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Fort Collins police arrested a man suspected in the fatal stabbing, Saman Zare, 36, less than a mile away at Buckingham and Third streets, police said in an update Saturday afternoon. A suspect had been seen bicycling east on Willow Street after the stabbing, police said.

Zare was booked into the Larimer County Jail, according to police. Records showed he was still listed as an inmate Saturday afternoon but did not list bond information. Zare's name also appeared on the jail's list of inmates who are considered "homeless/transient."

Multiple police were on scene at the gas station Friday night, and yellow police tape was put up around the area, according to video captured by a passer-by and posted to the Fort Collins Neighborhood Watch Facebook group. Police said they closed northbound College Avenue, along with part of Willow Street, as they investigated.

Fort Collins Police Chief Jeff Swoboda made this statement in the news release: “I’m incredibly grateful of the exemplary police work that our officers and detectives displayed in this case. Our initial patrol officers attempted to save the victim’s life by rendering medical aid, our Forensic Services Unit and Crimes Against Persons Unit working to process the scene, our District 1 officers for recognizing the suspect, and our Criminal Impact Unit for quickly locating the suspect and safely taking them into custody. We were able to identify, locate, and arrest an unknown homicide suspect in just over 12 hours, and ensure that no one else in our community be harmed by this dangerous individual. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time."

The Larimer County coroner will release the deceased man's identity and cause of death at a later time, according to the news release.
