Trooper Brian Cannon, of the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Ravenna post confirmed Wednesday that Ryan J. Tucholsky, 29, died from injuries he sustained in the crash. Cannon added he believes Tucholsky, the motorcycle's operator, died Tuesday afternoon.

Tucholsky's death followed that of the motorcycle's passenger, Sara R. Tartaglio, 40.

The highway patrol said it received a call to respond to Route 82 in Aurora at 6:52 p.m. where an eastbound car allegedly struck the rear of the eastbound motorcycle. Tucholsky and Tartaglio, who were both wearing helmets, were thrown from the motorcycle.

Tartaglio was taken to UH Twinsburg Medical Center, where she died. It was initially reported that Tucholsky was flown by helicopter with life-threatening injuries to a hospital in Cleveland, but Cannon said that for a reason he was unaware of, the flight was rerouted to a hospital in Akron. Cannon was unsure which hospital.

The car's driver, Aurora resident Nicholas Anthony Monachino, 26, allegedly fled the scene, but was later arrested after crashing the car on Pioneer Trail.

Monachino is currently charged with second-degree felony aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and hit-skip — both third-degree felonies — first-degree misdemeanor operating a vehicle under the influence and minor misdemeanor assured clear distance ahead in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna.

Monachino was arraigned on the charges on Monday, when he was ordered held in Portage County Jail on a $250,000 bond, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Friday morning.
