Man dies in Englewood Cliffs crash, police investigating

An unidentified man in his 40s was killed in an early morning crash in Englewood Cliffs on Sunday.

The crash, which occurred at about 1:16 a.m., is still under investigation, according to Englewood Cliffs police Detective Lt. Ronald F Waldt.

Police arrived and found a vehicle — a white BMW sedan — severely damaged and a driver trapped inside, he said. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An initial investigation determined that the sedan was traveling south when it left the roadway, ultimately striking a tree in the vicinity of 900 Sylvan Avenue, according to police.

The Englewood Cliffs Fire Department assisted with the extrication of the driver, who is currently unidentified, police said.

No criminal or motor vehicle charges are pending at this time.
