Man dies in house fire as woman and child escape

A man has died in an early morning house fire.

Fire crews tackled the blaze in a house on Kipling Avenue, Droylsden, Tameside at about 0:00 BST on Wednesday.

Police said a man was pronounced dead at the scene while a woman and child, who were also in the house, did not suffer any injuries.

An investigation has been launched and a cordon remains in place.

Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker, of Greater Manchester Police's Tameside district, said: "This is clearly a devastating and shocking incident in which a man has sadly lost his life and that remains in our thoughts as we start to progress our investigations into the circumstances of the fire."

The incident is being treated as "isolated" and the area will see an increase of police presence in the area over the coming days, Det Ch Insp Barker said.

Police are urging anyone with any questions, concerns or information to contact the force.
