Man dies in single-vehicle crash near Edinburg, North Dakota

Nov. 14—EDINBURG, N.D. — A North Dakota man died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday evening in Walsh County.

According to a report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Jason Schatzke, 48, of Wheatland, North Dakota, died in the mishap, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Nov. 12, four miles east of Edinburg on Walsh County Road 9. The road was snow-covered at the time.

According to the NDHP report, Christopher Thompson was driving a 2022 GMC Yukon when it left the roadway near the intersection of 133rd Avenue Northeast and struck a tree. Schatzke died at the scene.

Thompson, 46, of Grafton, was charged with driving under the influence. Altogether, there were six people in the vehicle at the time. One other passenger suffered minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol and Walsh County Sheriff's Department.
