Chatham man dies in single-vehicle crash on Curran Road Monday

A 33-year-old Chatham man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 6500 block of Curran Road near Chatham Monday evening.

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon identified the driver of the 2021 Mazda SUV as Cory Derosa of the 6100 block of Wagon Ford Drive.

Sangamon County Central Dispatch received a 911 call about the crash at 7:07 p.m.

Derosa was taken to Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 8:04 p.m. by emergency room staff, said Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon.

Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell said deputies reported Derosa was southbound on Curran Road and appeared to have crossed into the northbound lane and went off the road.

Campbell said the vehicle rolled over and the driver was ejected.

A nurse passing by the accident stopped to aid Derosa.

Crews from Chatham Fire Department responded to the crash.
