A man was killed when authorities said he drove at a high rate of speed and rolled his vehicle multiple times while traveling along D Street in downtown Victorville.
Efstratios Maloutas, a 29-year-old Victorville resident, was the man who died Monday night in the collision on D Street near Interstate 15, according to the Victorville Sheriff’s Station.
The location of the collision was near the CEMEX cement plant. In that area, D Street is also known as National Trails Highway or old Route 66, area maps show.
At about 11:29 p.m. Monday, deputies, American Medical Response and the Victorville Fire Department responded to the single-vehicle collision.
Upon arrival, deputies located a 2017 Nissan 370Z in a dirt field north of D Street. The driver, who authorities identified as Maloutas, was pronounced deceased at the scene, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies with the Victorville Station Major Accident Investigation Team responded and assumed the investigation.
The team determined that Maloutas was traveling northwest on D Street at high speeds when he struck a curb and drove off the roadway. The vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest in the dirt field, the sheriff’s report said.
Sheriff’s officials continue to investigate the collision.
Anyone with information about the ongoing investigation is asked by the sheriff's department to contact Deputy J. Mata at the Victorville Sheriff’s Station at 760-241-2911 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at 760-956-5001.
