Man dies after SUV veers off roadway into tree, bursts into flames late Thursday in Bear

A man was killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash late Thursday in Bear, Delaware State Police said.

The man's identity has not been released pending family notification.

The crash occurred as the man drove a 2015 Toyota RAV4 north on Wrangle Hill Road, north of Mabel Lane, just before midnight.

For unknown reasons, police said the RAV4 made an abrupt left turn across Wrangle Hill Road, leaving the roadway and colliding head-on with a large tree. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 collision reconstruction unit continues investigating the incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this crash to contact investigators at (302) 365-8484.
