Man dies in Tuesday afternoon crash in Nodaway County

Nov. 23—A Hopkins, Missouri, man died on Tuesday afternoon in a three-vehicle accident just south of Hopkins.

The crash occurred on Missouri Route 148 as all three vehicles were traveling north around 3 p.m., according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

A 2011 Jeep Latitude and 2013 Volkswagen Jetta slowed for a farm implement. A 2005 Peterbilt then struck the rear of the Jeep, pushing the Jeep into the Volkswagen, according to the crash report.

After the collision, the Jeep traveled off the roadway and came to rest in a yard on its wheels.

The Peterbilt and Volkswagen came to a controlled stop, according to the crash report.

The driver of the Jeep, 75-year-old Marcus Nelson, suffered fatal injuries, and 67 year-old Glenda Wyer-Nelson, a passenger, suffered moderate injuries. Both were transported to Mosaic in Maryville, Missouri, by Nodaway County EMS.

Nelson was pronounced dead at Mosaic in Maryville at around 4:30 p.m. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts during the accident, according to the crash report.
