Man and dog tumble down 60-foot cliff into creek bed in Pennsylvania, rescuers say
Firefighters rescued a man and a dog after they fell down the side of a cliff on Friday, May 13, Pennsylvania officials said.
Rescuers responded to the scene in Plymouth Township around 5:10 p.m., according to the Nanticoke City Fire Department.
It’s not clear just how it happened, but the man and dog tumbled 50-60 feet down a cliffside, landing in a creek bed, the department said.
A witness sitting at a nearby ice cream stand saw and heard the pair fall from the cliff, officials told TV station WYOU.
They were injured and trapped, separated from first responders by a creek, according to the department.
“Terrain over there is not very friendly at all; we also had to cross a body of water which makes that even more difficult,” Assistant Chief John Polifka told WYOU. “We had to set up all different kinds of systems and stuff just to get him out.”
Firefighters secured the man in a basket and pulled him across the creek where he was loaded onto an ambulance and taken to a trauma center, officials said.
The dog was rescued next and helped by a veterinarian at the scene, before being transported to an animal hospital.
Officials did not comment on the extent of injuries to the man and dog.
