Man ejected and killed in Friant Road vehicle rollover. Three women injured in crash

A man died Friday evening in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Friant Road in Fresno County.

The crash happened just after 7:30 p.m. roughly two miles north of where Willow Avenue merges into Friant.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Joseph Bianchi said the vehicle went off the road through a barbed wire fence before rolling a couple of times and coming to a stop.

A 42-year-old Fresno man was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Three female passengers were taken to a hospital with injuries, Bianchi said. A 32-year-old Coarsegold woman and a 29-year-old Visalia woman had major injuries and a 34-year-old Fresno woman had minor injuries.

It wasn’t immediately known what caused the crash. It also was not known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

“A lot of things are still in question,” Bianchi said. “But we do have some witnesses we’re looking to contact and try to piece it together the best we can.”

Bianchi added that there were skid marks “back quite a ways.”

Two passengers had seat belts on and a third passenger didn’t appear to have a seat belt on, but stayed in the vehicle, Bianchi said.
