Man escapes uninjured from burning camper south of Dassel, Minnesota

Dec. 6—DASSEL

— A man escaped from a burning camper overnight in Collinwood Township south of Dassel. The camper was deemed a total loss once firefighters extinguished the flames.

According to a news release from Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze, deputies upon arrival early Wednesday saw a camper fully engulfed flames.

Deputies learned Xion Hines, 18, of Dassel, was inside the camper as the fire started, but was able to exit before the fire had spread. Hines was not injured.

According to Cruze, the camper was owned by Ross Gehlen, 34, of Dassel.

Gehlen attempted to extinguish the fire after learning about it, but was unsuccessful. Gehlen was assessed by an ambulance at the scene for possible smoke inhalation, according to the release.

Dassel firefighters were able to put out the flames later, but the camper was deemed a total loss.

According to Cruze, it is believed the fire was caused by an electrical issue.

The report was made at 12:32 a.m. Wednesday in the 17900 block of 718th Avenue in Collinwood Township, south of Dassel.

Dassel Fire Department, Allina Ambulance, and the
