Man in ‘extremely critical’ condition after pulled from Chicago River near the Loop
A man was in “extremely critical” condition after Chicago Fire Department divers pulled him out of the Chicago River near the Loop on Tuesday, according to the Fire Department.
About noon, a helicopter dropped divers into the river by Lake Street, where the man was last seen in the water, the department said. A fireboat and Chicago police also respond. The Fire Department said it is believed that the man fell into the river.
Divers pulled the man out of the water about 12:30 p.m., and an ambulance took him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the department said.
The temperature outside was 22 degrees with a wind chill of 13 at the time the man fell into the water, according to the National Weather Service. Chicago fire spokesman Larry Merritt said he did not know the temperature of the water.
