Man faces prison time after traveling across U.S. to attempt to have sex with juvenile

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A man was sentenced to prison after he admitted he traveled to Salt Lake City to attempt to engage in sexual activity with someone he believed was a juvenile.

Dusty Junior Goodspeed, 58, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was sentenced today to 15 years in prison as a result of a guilty plea, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Goodspeed was charged with attempted coercion and enticement, as well as travel with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

In December 2022, Goodspeed traveled from Nebraska to the Salt Lake City International Airport in to engage in sex acts with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old boy, according to court documents and statements made at the plea hearing.

Goodspeed had reportedly been communicating with an undercover agent, who posed as the 13-year-old boy, and was arrested by law enforcement at baggage claim.

Goodspeed admitted to law enforcement that in September 2022, he used Facebook Messenger to contact someone he believed was a 13-year-old. That same month, he began texting the undercover agent who was posing as the juvenile messages that were sexual in nature, the U.S. DOJ said.

Goodspeed reportedly continued to communicate with the undercover agent until he landed at the airport in Salt Lake City and was arrested.

In addition to his prison sentence, Goodspeed was ordered to supervised release for life, the U.S. DOJ said.
