After the eastbound train passed, Moystner said, Fullenkamp, traveling southbound, crossed the tracks and was hit by a westbound train.

His pickup truck was then pushed to the west by that train for about three-quarters of a mile.

Fullenkamp — of St. Henry, Ohio, in Mercer County about 20 miles east of Portland, Indiana — was extricated from his vehicle and was taken by ambulance to Reid Hospital in Richmond, where he was pronounced dead.

The accident — reported to emergency dispatchers about 8:10 a.m. — remains under investigation, the sheriff said.

In addition to sheriff's deputies, Winchester and White River firefighters, Winchester police and Randolph County EMS also responded to the scene.
