Man fatally shot in Bennington Drive parking lot identified

Police are investigating the shooting death of a man found in the parking lot of an apartment complex in northwest Rochester over the weekend.

Emergency responders were called to Bennington Drive and Dewey Avenue around 10:45 p.m. Friday, as multiple gunshots were reported in the area.Moments later, that man was shot, said Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department.

Greece police officers were nearby and arrived at the scene first. They found Laquan Ealey, 31, in the parking lot of 29 Bennington Dr.. Ealey, a Greece resident, was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene, Umbrino said.

The fatal shooting marks the city's 81st homicide of 2021, the most in Rochester's history.

Umbrino said no charges have been filed in connection with the slaying. Investigators are working to determine the motive.

The Bennington Drive apartment complex is located off of Dewey Avenue, just west of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and several blocks from the Greece town line.
