Man fatally shot on Dewey Ave. identified

A Rochester man was shot to death on Dewey Avenue Friday night, according to police.

Officers were called to 210 Dewey Ave. around 11:30 p.m. Friday for a report that a man was shot and bleeding, said Rochester Police Capt. Frank Umbrino.

Officers arrived and forced their way into the downstairs apartment, where they found Eddie Blanding, 37, was shot at least once in the torso, he said.

Blanding was pronounced dead at the scene, Umbrino said.

Blanding did not live at 210 Dewey. Police said it did not appear that anyone was living in the apartment where Blanding was killed.

No charges have been filed in connection with the killing, which marked Rochester's 34rd homicide of 2022 and seventh slaying in June.

Further details about what led to the fatal shooting were not released.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 911, RPD's Major Crimes Unit at (585) 428-7157 or CrimeStoppers at (585) 423-9300.
