Police identified a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle in Phoenix Sunday night as 42-year-old Edward McHale.

Phoenix officers responded to reports of a traffic collision near 44th Street and Osborn Road at approximately 8 p.m., according to police spokesperson Sgt. Philip Krynsky.

When officers arrived, they learned McHale was crossing the crosswalk on 44th Street when he was struck by a black vehicle headed south on 44th Street, Krynsky said.

McHale was taken to a hospital to receive treatment but later died as a result of his injuries, Krynsky said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He did not show any signs of impairment, according to police.

Preliminary information gathered by investigators suggested McHale crossed the street against a Do Not Walk signal.

The investigation is ongoing.
