Man fatally wounded in shooting in South Austin neighborhood

A 22-year-old man was fatally wounded in a shooting Wednesday afternoon on the West Side in the South Austin neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 1 p.m., the man was walking in the 5500 block of West Corcoran Place when someone inside a black Jeep opened fire before fleeing in an unknown direction, police said.

The man was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

About. 3:45 p.m., two men were shot in the Calumet Heights neighborhood in the 9200 block of South Stony Island Avenue on the South Side.

The men, both 23, were inside of a vehicle when they heard shots and felt pain. One of them was struck in the rib area. It was not immediately known were the other man was hit. Both of them were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where the first victim was listed in good condition, police said.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
