A 47-year-old man was fatally shot Thursday afternoon while he was walking in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m., the man was walking in the 1500 block of North Laramie Avenue when he heard gunfire and felt pain. He was taken with a gunshot wound to the back to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A stray bullet struck a CTA bus that was traveling north on Laramie, and the driver suffered a minor injury from glass shattering. The bus driver was taken in good condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, police said.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
