TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Highway Patrol said it arrested two men after a chase that reached about 150 mph in Hernando County Sunday afternoon.

Troopers said at about 12:17 p.m., Brandon Corey Johnson, 28, of Weeki Wachee was spotted speeding on State Road 50 at Braewood Street in Brooksville.

According to an incident report, a trooper conducting speed enforcement at the intersection pulled Johnson over. Upon noticing that the car, a Dodge Challenger, appeared to be a rental vehicle with dark external tints, he told Johnson to lower his window, turn the car off, and put the keys on the roof. It was then that Johnson fled from the trooper.

The FHP said the chase reached speeds of up to 150 mph as the suspect continued to drive “in a manner that demonstrated a wanton disregard for the safety of persons and property.”

The chase came to an end at the intersection of State Road 50 and Spring Lake Highway when the Challenger ran off the road while trying to make a right turn, colliding with two electric pedestrian crossing signals.

Troopers said after the initial crash, Johnson crossed the median into the eastbound lanes where he crashed into another car.

The FHP report said inside the vehicle were three other passengers, including a 10-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy.

Troopers said the following items were also found in the vehicle after a search:

  • 7 grams of Cocaine wrapped in a $1 bill in the driver’s floor

  • Clear plastic bag containing 9.9 grams of cocaine, clear plastic bag containing 2.2 grams of cocaine located in “DABTIS” backpack in trunk

  • Clear plastic bag containing 9.9 grams of marijuana located in driver’s floor

  • Clear plastic bag containing 3.2 grams of marijuana and digital scale with green leafy residue labeled “Cookies”

The FHP said the front passenger was a man named William Xavier Glover, 30, of Weeki Wachee, a five-time convicted felon who was on probation. Johnson was also on probation for battery.

Johnson was arrested on numerous charges, including child abuse, fleeing law enforcement, and numerous drug charges. Glover was also arrested on charges including possession of marijuana, fraud, and possession of a firearm by a felon — according to the Hernando County Jail.
