Man Flees Saskatchewan Woods as Wildfire Destroys Cabin

A resident of northern Saskatchewan woodland captured dramatic footage of a wildfire raging as he evacuated the area by boat on July 15. The wildfire destroyed his cabin, he told Storyful.

Video by Scott Mcleod, a carpenter from the First Nations forest settlement Stanley Mission, shows the forest engulfed in red flames as he flees across the water.

Mcleod told Storyful he and a few of his family members had been putting up sprinklers on cabins they own in hopes of keeping the fire at bay. He said their attempts worked for a few days, but the wind picked up too quickly and the fire left the cabins as nothing but ash.

“Fire had no mercy,” he said. “The family is very sad, lost memories that meant the world.” Credit: Scott Mcleod via Storyful
