Man found dead in courthouse was Broward State Attorney’s Office worker. What we know

A Broward State Attorney’s Office employee was found dead at the courthouse Wednesday night.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office told the Miami Herald that Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, along with deputies stationed at the courthouse, found a man dead after receiving a call shortly before 9 p.m. on Wednesday. According to police and fire rescue radio transmissions, the man was located on the 13th floor of the west wing of the courthouse. He had been there for a couple hours.

In an email to staff Thursday morning, Broward State Attorney Harold Pryor identified the man as Daniel Miranda, a 55-year-old multimedia specialist in the Digital Evidence Unit.

“Danny worked hard and was always happy to offer a helping hand to any of us who needed anything,” Pryor said in the message. “I also remember Danny as our resident DJ. We are in shock and we are grieving. Danny will be missed in our office, in our community, and our justice system.”

The call, according to the transmissions, came in as a cardiac arrest, though officers on the scene radioed in that he was dead when they found him.

BSO will continue investigating the death, though no foul play is suspected at this time, pending an autopsy.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to Danny’s wife and family and we are praying for them during this very sad time,” Pryor said in the email. “We also offer our sincerest condolences to all of Daniel’s close friends and colleagues within the SAO family.”

Grief support will be available for staff on Friday when the courthouse reopens. It is closed Thursday because of flooding from Wednesday’s heavy rain.
