Man found dead after Delray Beach apartment fire; city, state to probe cause

DELRAY BEACH — Crews found a man dead Tuesday night while fighting a fire at an apartment off Congress Avenue, Delray Beach Fire Rescue said.

The agency did not identify the man, whom paramedics declared dead at the scene on the 900 block of Southwest 20th Court.

Delray Beach Fire Rescue said on its Twitter page that both it and the state Bureau of Fire, Arson and Explosives Investigation will examine the cause of the fire.

The agency learned at about 10 p.m. of the fire at the apartment, which sits west of Interstate 95 and north of Lowson Boulevard. The effort to fight it closed Congress between Southwest 10th Street and West Atlantic Avenue.
