Man found dead by rail crossing in 300 block of Lincoln Street

GALESBURG — A Knoxville man was found dead at a Galesburg railroad crossing Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the crossing in the 300 block of Lincoln Street at 8:50 a.m., where the man, identified as Corey N. Engle, 36, of Knoxville, was found on his back, just north of the railroad tracks on the east side of the crossing. He appeared to have blood on his forehead and he was mostly covered by snow from the previous night’s snowfall.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Knox County Coroner Mark Thomas at 9:46 a.m.

Further details about the cause of the man’s death were not available at press time.
