Man found dead after setting fire to home, vehicles near Kingman

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Police and firefighters responded to a home in Golden Valley, Arizona, Thursday night, but fire crews left the scene when a man at the scene displayed a weapon, according to information from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

The man was later found dead after another fire started under a carport.

MCSO deputies said the initial report of a fire is now a death investigation.

When deputies arrived just after 7 p.m., they found the home fully engulfed in flames, and vehicles were also burning. They also found “a male subject walking around the property with his hands concealed.”

Witnesses told deputies the man had started several small fires, leading to the larger fire. When the Golden Valley Fire District arrived, the man showed a weapon and they left for their own safety.

SWAT and detectives were called to the scene, but when deputies ordered the man to show his hands, he did not comply.

“Deputies observed the male subject walk into a carport on the property, then a short time later the carport became fully engulfed in flames. When deputies were able to approach the residence, the male subject was located deceased inside the carport,” according to MCSO information.

The man’s name was not released, pending identification by the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The investigation is continuing.

Kingman police also responded to the scene in the 3800 block of Avra Road, just northeast of the turnoff to Golden Valley off U.S. 93. Kingman police supplied a drone to assist with officer safety.

This investigation is ongoing.
