Man found in dry part of public lake near Newton identified; death ruled homicide

Authorities have identified the man found Sunday in a dry area of a public lake east of Newton as 31-year-old Tyler Lee Ford of Hutchinson.

“Ford is believed to have died within the past week, and the body placed in the park within the past week,” Harvey County spokesperson Kyle McCaskey said in a Tuesday news release.

Ford died from a gunshot wound. He was found at Harvey County East Park.

The death is being investigated as a homicide. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office at 316-284-6960.

Authorities were sent to Harvey County East Park at 12:45 p.m. Sunday after a passerby reported a body.

“The body was found on park property west of North East Lake Road near Northeast 12th Street,” McCaskey said in a news release Sunday afternoon.

That area is not the main part where most people go when they visit the popular park for boating and swimming during warmer weather.
