Two people were killed early Sunday in separate Charlotte shootings, include a man found in the parking lot of a bar on Westinghouse Boulevard, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

The first victim was found outside an apartment building with a gunshot wound in the 500 block of Deanna Lane, off Nations Ford Road, according to a release from CMPD.

On Monday, the department charged Rafael Molina Pena, 39, with murder in the killing of Alvarado-Cubas, according to a press release.

The second shooting occurred at The Trap Bar & Billiards in the 1900 block of Westinghouse Boulevard, according to a police press release. The Trap is in the same block of buildings as La Poblanita Bar and Grill, where a maintenance worker was shot and killed on Feb. 5, CMPD says.

At the scene, officers located James John Basil McKnight, 34, with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of The Trap, according to a release from CMPD.

McKnight was taken to the hospital by Medic and pronounced dead by hospital staff, the release said.

A Facebook page for the Trap reports it closes at 2 a.m. The night spot calls itself a “dive bar” that offers games, karaoke and live music.
