Man found shot overnight near Worcester high school

WORCESTER — Police are investigating the shooting of a man who was found near Worcester Technical High School at 3 a.m. Friday.

The victim, who is 21 years old, is being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to the school after the ShotSpotter system detected gunfire.

Police said the case does not appear to be linked to the school beyond the victim being found on the property. Classes were held as scheduled Friday.

Principal Drew Weymouth sent a notice to parents and students informing them of the overnight incident. He said police presence at the school will be stepped up as a precaution.

"Please know our school is full of trusted adults," Weymouth wrote. "If your student is worried or concerned about this incident and would like to speak with someone, they are encouraged to do so."

No arrests have been reported by police.
